The Inspectorate of the Ministry of Interior in Kirkuk on Wednesday, announced 800 Iraqi forces and local police were trained by Italian expert troops from NATO for the “Liberation of Hawija district,” southwest of Kirkuk (250 km north of Baghdad.) Hawija city is currently a stronghold of Islamic State. It was also confirmed the NATO troops equipped them with “weapons and military vehicles.”
The director of the Office of the Inspector General of the Interior Ministry in the province of Kirkuk , Colonel of Staff Hamad reported 800 officers and employees of Hawija police completed a four month training session at the hands of Italian experts from NATO at Baghdad International Airport “noting that” the session was under the supervision of the Iraqi Interior Ministry.
