Kurdish special forces at the request from the Swedish government rescued a 16 year old Swedish girl from the grip of the heart of the Caliphate near Mosul, numerous officials said on Tuesday. Local officials said the United States did not participate in the rescue mission.
She was named in local news reports as Marilyn Nevalainen from the city of Boras. It had 66,273 inhabitants in 2010.
A senior Kurdish official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the secrecy surrounding the operation, said Kurdish intelligence officers were able to identify the girl’s location through satellite signals and her use of the Internet.
